Sharply colder today with rain especially a.m....

Periods of rain and possibly a few scattered thunderstorms will continue across the area this morning and then decrease rather rapidly this afternoon to mostly scattered areas of light rain.

While most of the precipitation this morning will be light to moderate in intensity, a few generally brief but locally heavy downpours of rain are possible with any scattered thunderstorms that may develop in some parts of the area at times. All precipitation this afternoon will likely be light in intensity for the most part.

On average, additional rainfall today will be around 0.5 inch or so for most locations with some 1 inch or so pockets possible in spots. The majority of accumulating rainfall today is likely to occur during the morning or midday hours, with decreasing amounts this afternoon in general.

Temperatures will continue to fall into the 40s this morning and reach the upper 30s in at least some parts of the area this afternoon. Gusty North winds will continue mainly in the 15-25 range throughout the day.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

Another round of rain, scattered t-storms and sharply colder temps on the way...

Periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms will continue across the area at times from now through 12 Noon on Wednesday, then decrease to mainly scattered light showers.

Locally heavy downpours of rain are possible at times with thunderstorms especially from late this evening into the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning as a strong cold front approaches and moves through the area from the North.

Average storm total rainfall of 1-2 inches is expected across most of the local area with locally higher amounts of 2-3 inches possible in spots.

Periods of locally heavy downpours of rain could produce standing water on some streets at times, especially in some of the more low lying/poor drainage areas, in and near low water crossings, etc. If such conditions were to occur it would most likely be from late this evening into the pre-dawn/early morning hours of Wednesday (i.e., from around or shortly after Midnight tonight through about 6-7am Wednesday) based on present indications.

No "severe" weather (i.e., damaging winds, large hail, etc.) is expected with any of the thunderstorm activity during the period.

In addition to the rain, please keep in mind that temperatures will fall from the upper 60s before dawn into the 40s in the morning and the 30s in the afternoon with gusty North winds behind the strong arctic cold front that will be driving all of this activity across the area.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

Periods of accumulating rain are likely this afternoon and again on Wednesday...

More frequent periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms are likely at times from around or shortly after 12 Noon Today through about 6pm on Wednesday.

Average rainfall of 1-2 inches is likely for most of the local area during this time period, and a a few spots could see locally higher rainfall amounts (mainly in the 2-3 inch range) due to any repeat episodes of thunderstorms at a given location.

While rain is possible just about anytime during the aforementioned time period, at this time it appears that the majority of the more numerous to widespread and/or accumulating rainfall is likely to occur between 12 Noon and 6pm Today and then again between 6am and 6pm on Wednesday. While locally heavy downpours are possible at times with any of the activity, they may tend to be more numerous -at times- during the 6am-6pm Wednesday time period.

At this time we do not expect any "severe weather" (i.e., damaging winds, large hail, etc.) with any of the scattered thunderstorm activity during the period.

Locally heavy downpours of rain, especially associated with any thunderstorm activity, could produce standing water in some of the typical low water crossing type areas at times during the period. At this time this does not appear to be the type of situation where widespread and/or significant flooding problems are likely for most of the local area. The time period when locally heavy downpours could produce standing water in some low lying areas would most likely be at sporadic times between 6am and 6pm on Wednesday, but again, widespread issues do not appear likely at this time. We will watch for any localized issues that may develop as the situation unfolds and issue any appropriate alerts at that time if needed.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

Widespread, much needed rainfall likely Tuesday PM and Wednesday....

More frequent periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms are likely at times from around or shortly after 12 Noon on Tuesday through about 6pm on Wednesday.

Average rainfall of 1-2 inches is likely for most of the local area during this time period, and a a few spots could see locally higher rainfall amounts (mainly in the 2-3 inch range) due to any repeat episodes of thunderstorms at a given location.

While rain is possible just about anytime during the aforementioned time period, at this time it appears that the majority of the more numerous to widespread and/or accumulating rainfall is likely to occur between 12 Noon and 6pm on Tuesday and then again from about 9am-6pm on Wednesday. While locally heavy downpours are possible at times with any of the activity, they may tend to be more numerous at times during the 9am-6pm Wednesday time period.

At this time we do not expect any "severe weather" (i.e., damaging winds, large hail, etc.) with any of the scattered thunderstorm activity during the period.

Locally heavy downpours of rain, especially associated with any thunderstorm activity, could produce standing water in some of the typical low water crossing type areas at times during the period, but at this time this does not appear to be the type of situation where widespread and/or significant flooding problems are likely for most of the local area. If there were to be a time period where any potential issues would be most likely to occur, that would likely be sometime during the 9am-6pm Wednesday time period, which we will continue to monitor closely for any necessary updates and/or specific alerts.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

Expect 1-2" of rain across most of the area Tuesday-Wednesday...

Periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms are likely at times from near 12 Noon on Tuesday through about 12 Noon on Wednesday.

Average rainfall of 1-2 inches is likely for most of the local area during this time period (total for both days), and a a few spots could see locally higher rainfall amounts due to any repeat episodes of thunderstorms at a given location.

At this time it appears that the rainfall is likely to accumulate over the generally broad time period from Noon Tuesday through Noon Wednesday. It will not necessarily rain all of the time during that period, but will likely occur in several "waves" within that 24 hour period.

At this time we do not expect any "severe weather" (i.e., damaging winds, hail, etc.) with any of the scattered thunderstorm activity across the local area during the period.

Locally heavy downpours of rain associated with any scattered thunderstorms could produce standing water in some of the typical low water crossing type areas at times during the period, but at this time this does not appear to be the type of situation where widespread and/or significant flooding problems are likely for most of the local area (especially since the majority of the precipitation is expected to occur over a relatively broad time period and in more than one wave). We will continue to monitor trends as activity actually develops and issue any necessary updates and/or specific alerts as conditions warrant.

The potential for both strong thunderstorms and more widespread/heavier rain will increase as you move further to the East of the local area...further to the East of I-35.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

A few periods of sleet are possible on Sunday...

Windy and much colder conditions can be expected on Sunday as cold arctic air continues to filter into the region from the North.

Temperatures will hold nearly steady in the middle to upper 30s during much of the daytime hours on Sunday, with Wind Chill values averaging the middle teens to middle 20s. Northerly winds will frequently gust in the 25-30 mph range throughout the period as well.

Periods of drizzle and/or light rain may mix at times with sleet anytime during the daytime hours on Sunday. At this time no significant sleet accumulation is expected across the local area. The potential for some ice and/or sleet accumulation will increase as you move further West of the local region, further out into the Hill Country.

The precipitation will end from West to East across the area by 5-6pm on Sunday.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.
